Supporting Your Child With Online Learning: A Webinar for Parents

August 25 | 11:00am – 12:00pm (ET)

Are you a parent of a young adult who will be learning online this fall? Join this free webinar to hear from a panel of online teaching and learning experts (and parents!) who will help you learn to manage your own stress, consider the role of routines and schedules, and gain specific strategies to support your kids during this incredibly challenging time.

Parents of older elementary, middle school, high school, and college learners will benefit from this session, though all are welcome. You’ll leave this session having identified the key online learning challenges facing your family and with a plan of action to have a successful fall.

Karen Costa (Moderator)
Faculty Development Facilitator
Karen has been teaching and learning online since 2007. Her first book, 99 Tips for Creating Simple and Sustainable Videos, helps faculty to connect with their online learners through instructor-created videos. She regularly presents interactive, fun, virtual sessions for higher education faculty on topics like trauma awareness, stress management, and online pedagogy. Associate Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo
Maha is the co-founder of Virtually Connecting, Equity Unbound, and a passionate, critical, open and connected educator, writeaholic, and learnaholic. She is also a mom of one.
Trayle Kulshan
Teacher & Graduate Student
Trayle is mom to a 3rd grader with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and even though she’s a teacher and student support specialist, she was challenged as a parent when her son’s school went online. Trayle has worked as a shadow teacher for students with special needs and has advised faculty for student accommodations. She has been a classroom teacher for K-20 and currently focuses on student support in higher education. She is working on her doctorate with research interests in caring approaches to academic advising and student support.
Elizabeth Leiba
Instructional Design Manager, LMS Administrator, English Professor, Podcast Co-host, & Faculty Trainer
Elizabeth has taught as an English professor, both online and face-to-face, at over a dozen universities. Most recently, she serves as the Instructional Design manager for City College. Elizabeth’s latest adventure is as the co-host of The EdUp Experience podcast where she interviews higher education leaders. Elizabeth also loves sharing her ideas and connecting through LinkedIn, where she has over 12,000 followers.
Dr. Carl S. Moore
Assistant Chief Academic Officer at University of the District of Columbia (UDC)
Dr. Carl S. Moore is currently the Assistant Chief Academic Officer at the University of the District of Columbia. He also serves as Certificate faculty in Temple University’s Teaching in Higher Education Certificate program, teaching faculty for USC’s Equity, and a workshop facilitator for the Online Learning Consortium. He is also a certified StenghtsFinder Coach and MBTI administrator. Carl frequently serves as a consultant on leadership, assessment, inclusive teaching, and faculty development. Over the course of his career, he has created and instructed a variety of face-to-face, hybrid, and online modes. He has a Doctorate in Urban Education from Temple University and a Masters of Arts from The Ohio State University in Higher Education Administration.
