Dear Commons Community,
Over the weekend Donald Trump tweeted that if Joe Biden is elected president, “jobs will disappear.”
Well, in case he’s hasn’t noticed and as the chart above shows, 51 million people have filed for unemployment during the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In the second quarter, the U.S. economy shrank by 33 percent (annual rate), an historically horrendous drop.
As another reminder, during the last three years of former President Barack Obama’s administration, the economy created more jobs than it did during its best year under Trump.
Donald, in case you forgot, Biden is not in the White House, you are. So please go away and let’s have a president who knows how to lead in a crisis.
